13 Upcoming Movie Sequels Nobody Asked For

3. Gnomeo & Juliet: Sherlock Gnomes

Gnomeo and Juliet
Miramax Films

Release Date: January 12, 2018

Another case of too little, too late, this horrendously-titled sequel to the unexpectedly successful 2011 animation isn't exactly arriving on a tidal wave of hype, because the original was such an acceptable but forgettable outing. Couldn't most if not all of us go our entire lives without a follow-up?

Could It Be Any Good?: The real question mark here is the presence of Johnny Depp voicing the titular Sherlock Gnomes. If the script harnesses Depp's more eccentric sensibilities (that is, all of them) for the better, than this could be a fun, silly riff on the World's Greatest Detective.

Alternatively, maybe Depp just phones it in for an easy paycheck as he's been doing a lot recently, and it's not exactly like many came away from the original film remembering much of James McAvoy and Emily Blunt's performances.

Expect a passable rental with little incentive to actually check it out in cinemas.
