13 Ways DC Is Attempting To Combat The Marvel Films Model

7. Treating Their Movies As Standalones

DC seems a lot more intent on approaching their films as individuals, wanting to sacrifice continuity for individual quality. This could change greatly as the movies begin to introduce more and more heroes, but for the time being, it looks like each film is meant to offer a complete story without worrying about where the other characters are.

It€™s almost set up like a comic book, where each film leads into the next adventure, rather than having each one build up multiple subplots to all pay off in one giant team-up movie. That means that Nick Fury won€™t be there to introduce the Avengers four movies before they actually appear.

Marvel certainly tried to start off this way in Phase 1 but over time have become burdened by the weight of everything that€™s going on in their movies. The benefit of a nascent universe is that it€™s not overcrowded yet. This means we can get good films without having to worry about plot holes in regards to the universe. Surely that€™s better than a mediocre film that strenuously adheres to the continuity.
