7. Jerjerrod's Clash With Vader

Lucasfilm

Which Episode? Return Of The Jedi

Where would it be in film? Before Vader returns to the Emperor to report that Luke's on Endor.

What happens? Instead of Vader just waltzing into the Throne Room, he comes up against Moff Jerjerrod, the commander of the second Death Star. Refusing to let the Sith Lord in, Vader does what he always does and chokes him. Jerjerrod is a character who has a handful of appearances in the finished film, appearing as just another snivelling Imperial slightly unnerved by his Force-wielding leaders, but this shows another, more power-obsessed side to him.

Should it have been cut? As a one off scene it's a rather odd one, but does do something very interesting with the Vader character. In Empire he was pretty much in total command, so seeing him have to answer to, to some degree, a regular officer helps build the feeling that he's a stooge, building to his impending redemption. It's only a slight attempt to show this though; in the scope of film it doesn't have a massive impact.
