14 So-Called ‘Must-See’ Films In 2014 (That Might Actually Be Worth Watching)

4. Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Release Date: 28th March (UK), 4th April (US) Why It€™s A Must See: It€™s the closest thing to an Avengers follow-up yet. Captain America: The Winter Soldier has a lot in its favour. Being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe makes this an essential watch for many anyway, but completest viewing aside it may be one of the strongest blockbusters of the year. There€™s the expected man-out-of-time hijinks (accentuated by the appearance of the subtitular hero) and the natural hype around seeing Cap on screen again (The First Avenger was one of Marvel€™s most confident films in Phase I). But, with Fury, Black Widow and S.H.I.E.L.D. returning it€™s also an Avengers reunion, which the previous Phase II films certainly weren't. Oh, and a helicarrier falls from the sky, which looks awesome. Why You Should Be Worried: There€™s an awful lot to juggle. The film is primarily a seventies-style paranoia thriller, with Steve Rodgers on the run from S.H.I.E.L.D. He€™s already struggling to adapt to the modern world and suddenly a long-dead buddy reappears. Throw in the Falcon and Robert Redford€™s Alexander Pierce as major support, along with a bunch of existing characters that need servicing, and that€™s a lot of balls in the air. Can the directors of You, Me And Dupree really do all that justice? Bottom Line: Before we get started, does anybody want to get out? Thought not.
