14 So-Called ‘Must-See’ Films In 2014 (That Might Actually Be Worth Watching)
10. Noah
Release Date: 28th March Why Its A Must See: Were long overdue a quality biblical epic. On the one hand Noah can look incredibly bandwagon-jumping. Theres CGI animals aplenty (Life Of Pi) in a reimagining of a story we all know (most non-sequel blockbusters) that massively expands its original slim source (The Hobbit). But with Darren Aronofsky on board (he left his beloved Wolverine for this), a high pedigree of actors (the film pits Russell Crowe against Ray Winstone) and an ignorance of the stories fairy-tale embellishment, it may actually turn out good. We all know the story of God wiping out sin with torrential rain while two of each animal sail away, but Noah is more than that, pitching itself as a biblical epic in memory of The Ten Commandments and Ben Hur. Why You Should Be Worried: There have been religion-based complications. The biggest worry highlighted above is The Hobbit comparison. The whole Noah story is a tiny section of the Bible, meaning a lot needs to be expanded besides the changes necessary to make it suitably cinematic. And some of those changes have caused problems; test screenings with religious audiences havent been overly positive. While most wont care how faithful the film is, Paramount do, leading to rumours of a troubled productions. And those never end well. Bottom Line: Grab a brolly and give it a chance.
