14 So-Called ‘Must-See’ Films In 2014 (That Might Actually Be Worth Watching)

9. The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Release Date: 18th April (UK), 2nd May (US) Why It€™s A Must See: We're been promised the mistakes of the first film are behind us. For everything it did right (the casting across the board is great, the first hour is fun), The Amazing Spider-Man made plenty of mistakes, with its central mystery destroyed in the edit and the most superfluous villain in superhero movies thus far. Admitting they dropped the ball, the cast and crew have promised a change. The tone and colour palette is more in-keeping with the comics (and the beloved TV series) and each of the three villains (plus however many more are set up) look keen to justify themselves. Spider-Man has always meant to be fun and this looks like it might just fit the bill. Why You Should Be Worried: We've heard the promises all before. The Amazing Spider-Man is one of the most unnecessary reboots we've experienced, each deviation from the standard set in Sam Raimi€™s first film feeling painfully protracted (just look at Martin Sheen struggling his way around €œwith great power comes great responsibility€), despite Marc Webb and co. promising otherwise. Are the changes being made because the first wasn't as good as it could be, or because the box office wasn't as illustrious as expected? Bottom Line: Does whatever a spider can (but slightly different so it looks new).
