14 Cinematic Questions We Demand To Have Answered in 2013

3. What Will Christopher Nolan Do Next?

After the rigours of his Batman trilogy, and the very particularly demands of his pivotal role in the Man Of Steel project, where does Christopher Nolan go next? Given his profile at the minute, he could do anything, whether that actually is the JLA project (though whether he would want to take on three superhero strands remains to be seen) or his long-suggested Howard Hughes biopic.

Personally, I'd like Nolan to take a step down in scale, which might sound farcical given the trend of his career, but his most engaging film-making skill is still his ability to spin a good yarn. His technical flourishes might be the ornaments that add flamboyance and visual flair to his work, but it is his commitment to story-telling, and his choice of stories that is really the most Nolan-esque of his traits.

There is no need to endlessly seek out scale and grandeur, because if he does, he will fall into the trap that most big-time directors do - failing while trying to land their biggest ever fish. And a film that tries to out-size the Dark Knight trilogy could very possibly be that big fish.

What do you think Nolan should do next? We've already considered 10 projects he could take on after Man Of Steel.
