14 Cinematic Questions We Demand To Have Answered in 2013

6. Can Pixar Pull It Back?

After years of making home run movies that got progressively better, the unthinkable happened for Pixar, and Cars 2 was panned from certain quarters, while Brave was heralded as a safe choice that pulled up too few roots for it to be considered truly brave. The studio that could do no wrong were being questioned, despite that track record, and their own past successes were being used against them as a quality gauge.

No film-maker can consistently make his best work over and over every time, and yet it was pretty much expected of Pixar, and when it failed to happen, some took joy in the fact. The gleeful criticism of Cars 2 was evidence enough of this, and yet despite that blip in form, every upcoming Pixar film will still be held up against the highest qualities already achieved by the studio.

2013 is a massive year for Pixar - in the decision to return to fan-favourite property Monsters Inc, they are perhaps playing it safe again, but the incredible success of the Toy Story sequels proves the studio can produce their finest work on non-original properties. They need a Toy Story 2 like success to convince some that they are still great, and we should find out with Monsters University whether it's possible.
