14 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The DCEU

9. Tone Is A Major Problem

One of the most-cited complaints about the DCEU is that the movies don't have a clue how to handle tone.

Man of Steel was criticised for being too dour for a movie about a beacon of hope, while both BvS and Suicide Squad were lambasted for failing to adequately massage their lighter elements into the darker overall picture.

This also transpires through to the marketing: BvS and Suicide Squad both released a dark trailer and then followed up with a decidedly more "fun" one, ensuring audiences weren't ever quite sure what kind of movie they were considering seeing.

Thankfully recently-appointed DCEU chief Geoff Johns has stated that Warner are well aware of the issues and looking to iron out the mood problem for Justice League in particular, likely why the movie's Comic-Con teaser focused largely on humour.

While this is one of the easier problems to fix, it's still going to create something of a clash when you consider the entirety of the DCEU, shifting from aching self-seriousness to something much, much lighter.
