And finally, it's the Holy Grail of cinematic cringe, a scene so uncomfortably awkward yet relatable that you'll probably unconsciously clench your fists and start sweating profusely.

Protagonist Mike (Jon Favreau) meets a woman at a club shortly after ending a long-term relationship, and upon returning home, calls her to leave a voicemail message with his phone number.

However, his anxiety causes him to ramble, and so he keeps calling her back to give his desperation context, which consequently only makes him seem creepier and more pathetic.

Eventually the woman answers the phone and tells him, "Don't ever call me again", bringing Mike's three-minute honeymoon period to a crushing end.

Cringe is often said to be the ultimate form of empathy, and that's exactly why this scene is so brilliantly painful to watch: so many of us have been in a similar situation, and there's something weirdly therapeutic about seeing it play out on screen.
