14 Directors Who Desperately Need A Hit Movie
1. John Carpenter
John Carpenter is one of the most revered directors of the late 1970s and 80s, acclaimed for films such as Dark Star, Assault on Precinct 13, The Fog, Escape from New York, The Thing, Christine, Big Trouble in Little China and They Live.
By next year, it'll be 30 years since Carpenter has released a single movie that was received well by critics and audiences alike, and his output has slowed down massively over the last two decades, directing just two films since 1998 (Ghosts of Mars and The Ward).
Will It Happen?: There's hope from a lot of fans that the horror legend still has a great movie or two in him. He's 69 years old, so he has time to get it done, and unlike a lot of the filmmakers on this list, won't require a massive budget considering the genre he generally prefers to work in.
Is it likely, though? Sadly, not really. He's being kept plenty busy with his music work and executive producing the new Halloween reboot, so it's not like he needs the work, as much as fans want it.
