14 Excruciatingly Gory Movie Fight Scenes To Make You Squirm

5. Braindead/Dead Alive

Grim Highlight: Mowing them down, part two Braindead, which was retitled Dead Alive for North American distribution, is a zombie comedy/horror film directed by Peter Jackson. Starring Timothy Balme as Lionel Cosgrove, a nerdy Kiwi with an Oedipal complex, Braindead features so much extreme violence it's hard to believe Jackson is so interested in singing and dancing dwarves. After Lionel's mother is taken over by a virus from a Sumatran Rat-Monkey, Lionel stashes her away in the cellar along with several others who become infected over the course of the film. The build-up of zombies eventually leads to a huge showdown in Lionel's house after a party, in what is perhaps the bloodiest scene in the history of cinema (in terms of pure liquid blood used). While the fight takes up around fifteen minutes of screen time, the goriest part really starts when Lionel brings a lawn mower inside the house in order to more efficiently trim down the zombie population. Lionel slices through the faces and the guts of countless zombies while buckets of blood splatter all around him, but most of it seems to end up on his face. It's a scene that's most remarkable for its excess. As soon as Lionel makes his way through the zombie horde, he looks behind himself to see that dozens still remain... so he continues to mow them down.
