14 Excruciatingly Gory Movie Fight Scenes To Make You Squirm

6. The Raid: Redemption

Grim Highlight: Rama shooting an assailant in the throat

The Raid: Redemption is a 2011 action movie directed by Gareth Evans that is centered on an elite police force attempting to kill a crime lord in an apartment block in Jarkarta, Indonesia. Similar to the 2012 film Dredd, the action scenes contained in a tight space throughout the film don't detract from the brilliantly choreographed fights within. There are six or seven sequences from the film that could have been placed on this list, but the scene that has the most gore is the first hallway fight Officer Rama fights a group of thugs all while protecting Officer Bowo (who was previously injured). Using just a police baton and a knife, Rama fights off a dozen residents of the apartment while dispatching them in increasingly creative ways. After cutting through the legs of one of his attackers, he then breaks multiple arms, smashes an assailant's head through a light then against the wall multiple times, and finishing off the scene by disarming a man with a gun and then using it to shoot him in the neck. The movie is famous for incorporating the Indonesian martial art pencak silat, which is being used again in the sequel The Raid: Retaliation which just premiered at Sundance.
