14 Horror Film Sequels You Didn't Know Were In The Works

11. The Purge 3

The Purge was one of those super creative and original ideas that Hollywood just loves to suck the life out of for profit. The first movie had everything and was a blast, but the second movie€well, broke its own rules a little bit to its own detriment. Plus, the addition of actual story lines took the spontaneity out of it, which was what was so terrifying in the first place. But now, inevitably, a third child will join the family. It is going to be another Blumhouse Productions project, which is a good base, but its success lies solely in its story line, which has yet to be released. Reports came out earlier in the year saying that the movie would be a prequel of sorts, focusing on the very first "purge night", but that has been stomped out by executives, unfortunately. It has been rumored the film will now focus on moving the series forward rather than back pedaling, showing further glimpse into revolutionaries fighting against the "purge night", which sounds an awful lot like it's all going to go a bit Hunger Games. Either way, its success is at least partly assured because the franchise isn't a big cost-runner: The Purge was made for an estimated $3M, while The Purge: Anarchy was given an estimated $9M. If the pattern continues, Purge 3 is looking at a nice sack of cash to get it off the ground, which would definitely add a layer of action and torture that the series hasn't seen yet. This one is headed to theaters in July of 2016.
