The theme for 2014's Oscar ceremony was heroes, admittedly a rather broad subject which resulted in several non-descript montages of heroes, from the everyday, to the more extraordinary. To me, the best montage was the final one, which referenced everything from Casablanca's Rick Blaine, to Will Smith's Agent J from Men in Black, and even Superman himself. It may have been one of the more superfluous elements of the show, and wasn't any flashier than a montage you might see on YouTube, but it was a nice, brief break from all the pomp and circumstance of the awards themselves. Given how people are always saying the Academy needs to trim down the Oscar run-time, perhaps multiple montages weren't necessary, but it was certainly fun to watch.
