14 Most Terrifying Moments From Alien Films
5. My How You've Grown (Alien)
There's no time for the remaining crew of the Nostromo to mourn Kane's death as they have a cute baby Xenomorph to catch.
After allowing Jones the cat to escape his clutches, Brett goes in search of the ginger feline because, as Parker points out, they had to nab him otherwise he'd show up on the scanner again.
His search, whilst emitting some meowing noises, eventually takes him to the engine room. The eerie sounds of chains clanging and water drip dropping high above do more to heighten the tension than any creepy incidental music would have done. Brett spots Jones and tries to entice the cat towards him. A swinging tail appears behind Brett, making the cat wisely cower back.
Then the rest of the Xenomorph we all know and, er, love - talk about a growth spurt by the way - stealthily appears. All together now: "He's behind you!". Sorry, couldn't help it. Brett turns around paralysed to the spot in childlike fear. All together now: "Run for f**k's sake!".
But, of course, they never do. Jones' look of stupefied horror is perfectly priceless as the alien whisks poor Brett into the cooling ducts up above.
