14 Movie Posters And DVD Covers That Blatantly Lied To You

11. Infernal Affairs

The Hong Kong film Infernal Affairs is an interesting crime thriller that later inspired Martin Scorsese's The Departed, but apparently for the film’s American release, it needed to be spiced up.

Just take a look at the official American cover for the movie, which depicts the two main characters behind a woman holding a gun. For one, this extremely cheesy poster makes it look like a balls to the wall action flick, when in reality, it’s more of a thoughtful cop drama with not much action. Not only that, but that extremely prominent woman on the cover isn't even a character from the movie.

Quite who she is remains one of Hong Kong cinema's great mysteries.

The company apparently just stuck a random image of a woman with a gun on the cover to make people think it would be an action film with some eye candy, despite the lack of anyone who looks anything like that in the film itself.

Way to completely underestimate American audiences.
