14 Movie Trailers That Spoiled Awesome Plot Twists
11. The Dark Knight
Here's a big twist that, on paper, should've been a brilliantly triumphant "gotcha!" moment, but due to some overzealous trailer editing, it was ruined more than six months ahead of time.
You see, an hour into Christopher Nolan's superhero epic, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman) is apparently killed during The Joker's (Heath Ledger) assassination attempt on Mayor Garcia (Nestor Carbonell).
However, about 20 minutes later, he shows up at the end of the SWAT chase to save Batman (Christian Bale) from The Joker, having faked his own death.
This would've been a pretty neat rug-pull if not for the fact that pretty much every trailer blatantly showed Gordon in SWAT gear talking about The Joker after he was captured and placed in jail.
Considering the immense hype surrounding The Dark Knight and the sheer number of times even casuals saw the trailer, there surely weren't many who forgot about Gordon having more scenes following his "death".
Though back in 2008 Nolan didn't yet have the clout he has today, it's still a shame nobody took a moment to consider the harm the spoilerific trailers actually did to this part of the movie.
