Ever since Blade: Trinity's release back in 2004, there has consistently been talks of a new Blade movie happening. Of course, across those years that talk was always with Wesley Snipes back in the Daywalker role he inhabited for three films.

While a new Blade picture is now confirmed to be on the way, there will be no return for Snipes. Instead, Marvel Studios is delivering a fresh incarnation of Blade with two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali taking on the lead role this time out.

In addition to nabbing an Oscar for each of his roles in Moonlight and Green Book, Ali has already ventured into the larger realm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. That venture, of course, coming with a powerhouse performance as the villainous, chilling Cottonmouth in Marvel's Luke Cage.

Right now, Mahershala Ali in the role of Blade is all that's known about this new Blade offering. Marvel Studios - which regained the rights to the character from New Line Cinema in 2012 - is currently on the hunt to find a writer and director for Blade, with a 2023 release seeming to be the earliest we could feasibly expect to see the film released.
