8. Black Panther 2

How can you discuss Black Panther 2 without reflecting on the devastating reality that Chadwick Boseman is no longer with us?

The T'Challa actor passed away this August at the painfully young age of 43. It still somehow doesn't feel real, and the world lost a true shining star of hope and positivity with Chadwick's passing. One of the very best actors of his generation, in his portrayal of Black Panther he gave so many people a symbol to believe in and to champion.

A Black Panther sequel had been announced long before the death of Chadwick Boseman, and Marvel Studios has confirmed that the follow-up will still go ahead. Thankfully, director Ryan Coogler has just this week come out to reiterate that the character of T'Challa will not be recast and also that there would not be a digital replacement for Chadwick, and now it's a case of seeing how Black Panther 2 handles the loss of its franchise star.

Previously, the plan was for Black Panther 2 to focus on how T'Challa continued to grow into his role of King of Wakanda. Now, it could well be that Letitia Wright's Shuri has the Black Panther mantle passed to her by her brother.

Currently, Black Panther 2 is tentatively planned for a July 2022 release, although there is obviously still lots to work out for this sequel.
