14 Predictions For Next Summer's Biggest Movies
6. Slender Man Is The Summer's Big Sleeper Hit
The Prediction: The upcoming big-screen adaptation of the iconic Internet myth ends up the summer's big sleeper hit, a low-budget box office smash propelled by the figure's online fame and a distinctly creepy marketing campaign.
Nobody's saying the movie's going to actually be any good, but it could easily rake in a few hundred million worldwide regardless. After all, distributor Screen Gems has an impressive track record making small fortunes out of low-budget horror flicks.
Why It Might Not Happen: It's possible that director Sylvain White (I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, The Losers) turns in an end-product so awful that even the notoriously undemanding horror crowd won't bother with it.
After all, it was filmed in just five weeks yet is for some reason spending almost an entire year in post-production. Spooky.
