14 Predictions For Next Summer's Biggest Movies

12. Meg Is The Most WTF Movie Of The Summer

Meg 2018
Warner Bros

The Prediction: There will be no stranger, crazier movie next summer than Meg, a sci-fi horror flick from the director of both National Treasure movies, starring Jason Statham as an expert diver who is charged with rescuing a group of Chinese scientists from a 70-foot megalodon shark. Yup.

The consortium of production companies attached to this movie have stumped up a combined, mind-boggling $150 million for it, and the supporting cast includes the eclectic likes of Li Bingbing, Ruby Rose, Rainn Wilson, Cliff Curtis and Masi Oka.

There's no way this movie isn't a gigantic mess, but it could also be a ton of bats**** fun, as long as it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Why It Might Not Happen: Well, if the tone is self-serious, then this one's dead in the water before it even begins, as it'll probably try and keep all the thrills relatively "grounded", at least as much as a movie revolving around The Stath fighting a prehistoric shark actually can.

Alternatively, maybe another blockbuster will arrive out of nowhere and totally out-WTF it.
