14 Simple Fixes That Would Have Made Fantastic Four Awesome

13. Add At Least $30 Million To The Budget

At first glance, $120 million sounds like a sizable budget for a tentpole film, but then consider that 2007's Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer was budgeted at $130 million, while the likes of Man of Steel and X-Men Days of Future Past were both in the $200-220 million range. The proof that F4 needed more money poured to it is chiefly apparent in the visual effects department: it's staggering that the CGI is so ghastly, with the most infamous moments including Thing throwing part of a tank (it disappears the second it explodes), the scene in which Reed alters the elasticity of his face to change his appearance, the accident scene itself, and pretty much any time Doom is on screen, especially during the final action sequence. Bad CGI is an unfortunate reality of contemporary filmmaking, but when the effects are far worse than countless movies with less than half the budget (District 9 cost just $30 million and looks decidedly better), something clearly needs to be done. Either hire a different company to work on the effects, or preferably, hurl at least another $30 million onto the budget, if not more. Fox clearly tried to make this one on the cheap (relatively speaking), but it's back-fired, because one of the most common complaints is how rough the general look of the film is.
