14 Stupid Blunders That Ruined Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

3. Leia's Death

Star Wars Rise Of Skywalker
Lucasfilm/Disney

This one is a tough one to discuss, because obviously there wasn't much that could be done with Leia and Carrie Fisher. Still, Leia's death in The Rise of Skywalker is...it's not very good.

With the limited footage they had, and the help of body doubles, they tried to make an emotional death scene for Leia, but it doesn't work. It feels random and out of nowhere.

She dies after force connecting with Ben as Rey stabs him. Sadly, without Carrie Fisher to act this out, it just feels off. It would have made more sense if she stayed alive and was written out for most of the movie.

If Leia absolutely had to die, they should have done it in The Last Jedi when she was sucked out into space. It would have been disappointing, sure, but a more effective way of writing Leia out, even though it would mean re-shooting major chunks of the movie. Above all else, it'd have spared us from that awful "Carrie Poppins" moment.

Aaron Kirby hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
