14 Terrible Recent Movies Destined To Become Cult Classics

4. The Mummy

The Mummy Tom Cruise Annabelle Wallis
Universal

Why It's Terrible: Hoo-boy. Where to begin? Tom Cruise is outrageously miscast as a cocky a**hole, Annabelle Wallis' female lead is a ditzy bust, the action is dull, and it's trying way, way too hard to kickstart a cinematic universe. Just...stop.

Why It'll Be A Cult Classic: The sheer fact that a $150-ish million, Tom Cruise-starring Mummy movie even exists will be enough for it to become a go-to-disasterpiece for many, but the icing on the cake is the gender-swapped antagonist (and poor Sofia Boutella, she really tries), not to mention Russell Crowe's howlingly over-the-top performance as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde.

It's high-profile trash full of absurd, CGI-assisted battles involving a cursed, super-powered Tom Cruise and ends with the promise of more. It'll never be genuinely loved like the Brendan Fraser films, but as a classic piece of garbage, it'll endure just fine, even if the Dark Universe never actually gets off the ground.
