14 Upcoming Movie Remakes That Might Not Actually Suck
6. It
Stephen King's terrifying novel It was originally adapted into a three-hour mini-series that was largely acclaimed for Tim Curry's astonishing performance as Pennywise the Dancing Clown, even though the rest of the movie hasn't exactly aged that well (especially the damn spider).
A remake has been in development for a long time, with True Detective's Cary Fukunaga originally signed on to direct a grittier, darker adaptation, before he left the project over creative differences.
Though fans were initially hesitant to embrace the Andrés Muschietti-directed (Mama) version that's imminently due for release, it's fair to say that the marketing's done a terrific job of convincing that this is going to be one Hell of a movie.
From Bill Skarsgård's sublimely creepy performance to Muschietti's direction, the 135-minute run-time and R-rated tone, there's a lot to be excited about, especially as this is just the first half of King's novel, with the sequel planned to be shot early next year.
Whether or not Skarsgård matches the iconic appeal of Curry's performance, this looks like a visually gorgeous and committed adaptation of King's source material.
