14 Upcoming Movie Remakes That Might Not Actually Suck

Ron Howard's classic 1984 fantasy rom-com was a major hit with critics and audiences alike, as well as earning an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. It may have only been the beginning for Hanks, but he and Daryl Hannah give effortlessly charming performances that have helped the film endure ever since.
It might not seem like the most ripe candidate for a remake, but original producer Brian Grazer is currently prepping a radical take on the original story that apparently hews closer to the original script, focusing on the mermaid rather than the human.
The real twist, though, is that the two characters will be gender-swapped, with Channing Tatum playing the merman while Jillian Bell is the human character. With Tatum producing alongside Howard and Grazer, there's clearly a lot of confidence in the project, and unlike most remakes, this one actually has an incredibly novel hook to change things up.
It probably won't be as great as the original, but there's a solid chance it'll be an entertaining reinvention of the unforgettable tale all the same.
