14 Upcoming Movies That Are Already Doomed (And Why)
8. The Girl In The Spider's Web
Release Date: October 5
Why It's Doomed: The Girl in the Spider's Web is an attempt to reboot the Lisbeth Salander movie franchise after David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo adaptation scored strong reviews but a mild box office back in 2011.
Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are sadly both out, replaced with Claire Foy and Sverrir Gudnason respectively. Though Foy and Gudnason are solid actors in their own rights and it's got the solid Fede Álvarez (Don't Breathe) attached to direct, it's still hard to be particularly enthusiastic considering how desperate the whole exercise seems.
Clearly the intent here is to build the hit movie franchise that didn't pan out with Fincher's film, but are audiences even still interested in the property? Has the opportune window not passed some five-plus years ago?
Though this version will clearly be made at a much lower budget than Fincher's film, the fact it's drawing from a book not written by original author Stieg Larsson, one met with mixed reviews no less, isn't great. Plus, it's meant to come out in October and shooting hasn't even started yet. Hmmm.
