14 Upcoming Movies That Might Be Surprisingly Awesome

Why It Should Suck: It's a video game movie for starters, and their track record is almost universally terrible, so why expect any different here?

Also, it's being written by totally untested scribe Geneva Robertson-Dworet, and hiring Norwegian director Roar Uthaug (The Wave) is probably an attempt by Warner Bros. to have an easily-manipulated up-and-coming director on deck, which rarely goes well.

Why It Might Be Awesome: Roar Uthaug is at least an acclaimed director, but most of this movie's hope comes from the cast, with Alicia Vikander being a terrific pick for the more vulnerable Lara Croft first introduced in the recently-rebooted video game franchise.

Plus, Dominic West plays Lara's dad, and Walton Goggins is in it, so there's some hefty talent lined up, hopefully because it's a good script rather than the paycheck being sizeable.
