14 Washed-Up TV Shows In Desperate Need Of Cancellation
3. Homeland
Showtime's Homeland was an instant hit with critics and audiences when it aired, singled out for the excellent chemistry between bipolar CIA officer Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) and U.S. marine Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), whose various interactions were infinitely more compelling than the central espionage premise itself. Despite the fact that the central mystery ("is Brody a terrorist or not?") didn't really seem like it could sustain past one season, the show endured surprisingly well over three seasons, constantly reinventing itself and serving up some brilliantly devious plot twists, culminating in Brody's execution in the season three finale. However, this should have been where the show concluded, yet instead, it has simply been "rebooted", with Carrie now a CIA station chief in Afghanistan. Given that Homeland was the Brody and Carrie show, to kill off one part of that equation is incredibly brave, although mightily stupid if Showtime wants the show to continue for much longer. Carrie and Peter Quinn's (Rupert Friend) relationship just isn't anywhere near as interesting, and from what's been aired of season four so far, it seems like the spark died with Brody. Season four should be the series prologue and little else.
