15 Acclaimed Recent Movies That Are (Probably) Doomed To Receive A Backlash
3. A Quiet Place
Once again, here's a 'gimmick movie'. In this case, it's a mostly silent horror film, which is unique and original, but aside from that, you've got a perfectly OK horror film, but one that's absolutely riddled with flaws.
A Quiet Place is one of those films that became a huge critical smash without anyone actually knowing why. It's suspenseful and well-acted, but it's also emotionally hollow, narratively slight and overloaded with gaping plot holes. For example, why the bloody hell did the two main characters decide to have a baby while being hunted by deadly creatures that hunt via sound?
These flaws, as well as just how little sense the story makes, will no doubt become much more glaring and distracting as people revisit the film and it seems likely that this will become far less popular as time goes on.
Don't be surprised if the delayed A Quiet Place Part II does far worse critically than the original did now that the concept is no longer fresh.
