Picture the scene: Severus Snape walks into the Potter's house in Godric's Hollow, discovers the evil work of the Dark Lord and cradles the dead Lily in his arms, uttering "I love you, Honey Bunny." That's a rather protracted way of saying that Tim Roth was almost cast as Severus Snape, the turncoat Death Eater who over seven books/eight films comes out as the franchise's best character. With Alan Rickman delivering a career-best performance as the potions master it's hard to comprehend anyone else donning the robes. Which makes it all the more surprising Roth was an initial favourite for the part. Frontrunner in the casting process, Roth dropped out so he could star in Tim Burton's The Planet Of The Apes. Probably one of the worst career decisions ever.
