15 Actors Who Were Almost Cast In Harry Potter

6. Billy Connolly - Xenophilius Lovegood

You don't have to travel far in the internet to find people who assert that Billy Connolly was in the Harry Potter movies. And obviously they're completely, totally, utterly wrong. Unless they're for some reason talking in a world of hypotheticals. Shortly after the final book was released, there were widespread reports the Billy Connolly was going to play Xenophilius Lovegood, father of Luna and one of the most ignored bastards of the series. Xenophilius (the character Rowling no doubt offered up there for Hoskins, as mentioned a few points ago) eventually went to Rhys Ifans, who was really overshadowed by the exemplar animated sequence slap-bang in the middle of his scene. Connolly will star in another big screen fantasy later this year; he'll play Dáin Ironfoot, Thorin's pig-riding cousin, in The Hobbit: The Battle Of The Five Armies.
