When it was apparent The Hunger Games was a hit there was a massive scramble as Hollywood's best not already tied down to a franchise vied to get in on the action. One of the key roles up for grabs was Johanna Mason, the initially-antagonistic former victor, which eventually went to long-rising star Jena Malone. She wasn't always the front-runner, with Mia Wasikowska's name (which wouldn't be out of place in Panem itself) consistently linked to the part. Not getting cast is another knock to a career that looked set to explode; Wasikowska starred in Alice In Wonderland, one of the biggest movies of the past decade, and yet it didn't do much to boost her reputation.
