For those who aren't rabid Hunger Games fans (Hungeys? Gameys? Teenagers?), Mags is the old lady who volunteers to enter the Quarter Quell alongside Finnick Odair in Catching Fire. In the finished film she's played by Lynn Cohen, but had things gone differently it could have been Melissa Leo choking in that fog. It's better that a lesser known actress (Cohen is best known for playing Magda in Sex And The City) to take the minor role, but the real slight against Leo is that she's inconceivably young - Mags is supposed to be thirty years older than the Oscar winner. Perhaps there was going to be a flashback of sorts to a younger Mags, but otherwise it smacks of star power for star power's sake, something The Hunger Games has mostly kept restrained.
