The Role: Kyle Reese, the all-important father of resistance fighter John Connor, who is of course sent back in time to protect Sarah Connor in the first Terminator movie, and ends up impregnating her with her son. The new movie will interpret Reese's trip back through time from an alternate perspective. What Happened: Hardy was one of several actors who screen tested for the part (despite director Alan Taylor actually wanting him for the part of John Connor), but somehow lost out to Jai Courtney. Who Should've Got The Part: Hardy, hands down, because he's proven himself to be brilliant in pretty much any role he throws himself into. Even if the film sucks, Hardy would have no doubt been a high-point, whereas Courtney has a less-than-stellar filmography to date (A Good Day to Die Hard, I, Frankenstein, Divergent), and his casting simply evoked groans from most of the Terminator fanbase. Perhaps it's for the best, though, as fan expectations for the film aren't exactly high anyway.
