15 Announced Movies That Will Probably Never Happen
8. Metal Gear Solid
What We Know: A movie based on Hideo Kojima's iconic video game franchise has been in the works for around a decade, with the original release date set for 2011. Currently, Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) is set to direct, while Jay Basu (Monsters: Dark Contintent) will write the script.
Why It Won't Happen: This one's flip-flopped so many times over the years that there's little belief it's going to get made, especially with fairly dubious talents like this on the creative side. Plus, MGS as a series is so eccentric that adapting it into a big-budget Hollywood movie will be virtually impossible without stripping out all the weird stuff that'll turn off the big money audiences.
In short, it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't"-type situation. The best action here is to just leave it well alone and let the games, which are pretty much films anyway, speak for themselves.
