The Plot: A biopic of legendary fantasy author J. R. R. Tolkien, detailing the life experiences which inspired him to write The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion.

Why It's Going To Be Awesome: For starters, Nicholas Hoult is a terrific actor and he seems like a snug fit for the titular role, but moreover, this doesn't look like your typical, garden variety literary biopic.

The trailers have made it clear the film will interface with Tolkein's most beloved works in a surreal and unique way, using the horrors of World War I to inform the most iconic imagery he later created.

Though it's possible as a result that Tolkien isn't an especially subtle biopic, if it provides precious insight into the man behind the legendary texts, it'll be well worth it. And releasing on May 10, it'll make for a damn weird double-bill with Pokémon: Detective Pikachu.
