15 Awesome Movies To Watch This Summer (That Aren't Blockbusters)

13. Long Shot

Long Shot Seth Rogen Charlize Theron
Lionsgate

Release Date: May 3

The Plot: Jobless journalist Fred Flarsky (Seth Rogen) crosses paths with his childhood love Charlotte Field (Charlize Theron), who now happens to be the U.S. Secretary of State. After she hires him to help punch up her speeches, Flarsky makes a play to win her heart.

Why It's Going To Be Awesome: Long Shot is the latest comedy from Jonathan Levine (50/50, The Night Before), and given the strength of his prior Seth Rogen collaborations, it's easy to be optimistic about this one.

The first trailer looks hilarious, Charlize Theron in comedy mode is always a ton of fun, and her odd couple chemistry with Rogen seems totally on-point.

Given that 2019 has been off to a pretty slow start for studio comedies - at least compared to last year, which blessed audiences early with Game Night and Blockers - this will hopefully fill the void and deliver laughs both vulgar and heartfelt.

Coming just a week after Avengers: Endgame, it's safe to say we might all be in need of a good laugh depending on how it all pans out.
