5. No Escape
Release Date: September 2 (US), September 4 (UK) The Plot: An American family (Owen Wilson and Lake Bell) move overseas only to find their idyllic life usurped when a terrorist coup takes place, and the family is itself targeted simply for being foreigners. Their safe exit just might rest in the hands of an agent, Hammond (Pierce Brosnan), tasked with bringing the mayhem to a resolution. Why It's Going To Be Awesome: John Erick Dowdle (Quarantine, Devil, As Above, So Below) is an intriguing director who hasn't yet seemed to find the right project to work his solid skills as a filmmaker, but this surprisingly R-rated effort looks like it just might be the ticket. Owen Wilson hasn't starred in a serious-minded action film since 2001's mediocre Behind Enemy Lines, and this should prove an interesting diversion for him, while Brosnan proved in The November Man that, even if the movie wasn't great, he can shine in the part of a grizzled, middle-aged guy with a gun. The first trailer released so far looks wild, entertaining and visually inspired, so hopefully it'll deliver some hardcore violence and slick action.
