2. Logan Lucky

The Plot: The perennially unlucky Logan brothers (Channing Tatum and Adam Driver) attempt to prove their family isn't cursed by pulling off a daring heist at the Charlotte Motor Speedway during one of the season's busiest races.

Why It's Awesome: Steven Soderbergh returns from his brief stint of "retirement" with an immensely satisfying and stingingly funny heist caper that's blessed with an incredible ensemble cast, best of all Daniel Craig, who gives his best performance in years.

Soderbergh feels totally in control of the movie from start to finish, taking triple duty as director, cinematographer and editor, and probably screenwriter too, unless someone can prove the existence of "Rebecca Blunt".

With the unique means through which he funded the film, Logan Lucky is terrific proof of what can happen when a talented auteur is left to their own devices to make art. It's hilarious, unexpectedly heartfelt and sits among the director's better movies for sure.
