15 Awesome Summer 2017 Movies You Probably Missed

15. Okja

The Plot: A young Korean farmgirl (Ahn Seo-hyun) fights to protect her pet and best friend Okja, a superpig who is being sought out by the powerful, multi-national corporation that created it.

Why It's Awesome: Another superbly-directed and emotionally devastating winner from Snowpiercer's Bong Joon-ho, Okja is a surreal adventure quite like nothing else released this year.

Driven by its epic ensemble cast (including Tilda Swinton, a barmy Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano), charming titular creature and potent, if not remotely subtle, political message, this is a must-watch for anyone with a Netflix subscription.

Deftly juggling its disparate tones and fearlessly verging into darker territory later on, Okja is easily one of the streaming platform's best and most daring cinematic acquisitions to date.
