7. Argo (2007)
Possibly the reason why Ben Affleck is now Batman, Argo marked the completion of a total turnaround in his Hollywood fortunes. The film was a big awards player and was almost perfect, but for the shameless attempt to shoehorn a little father-son story-line into the film that had no purpose being there. Instead of letting this father-son element feel like a natural part of the film, there was only a most basic, soppy scene, wedged into the story like a can of pepper spray, rather than anything that deserved to jerk those tears. "Oh by the way, he is a really good dad and misses his son. Now cry!" Because it felt inorganic, and placed there just to shamelessly tug at heartstrings it undermined a lot of what the film was already doing organically. The Ending That Ruined The Film After returning successfully from Iran with all the hostages, Tony Mendez (Affleck) is reunited with the son that nobody cares he has because the film has not done anything to make us care. It is a completely unnecessary element to add onto a film that has nothing to do with familial relationships. It added an element of the disingenuous to a genuine story of tense international conflict.
