15 Awful Films The Avengers Actors Want You To Forget
3. Johnny Be Good - Robert Downey Jr.
RottenTomatoes Score: 0% The Plot: Star high school quarterback Johnny Walker (Anthony Michael Hall) is being heavily courted by a number of prestigious colleges, but as gets pulled in different directions by both his best buddy Leo Wiggins (Robert Downey Jr.) and girlfriend Georgia (Uma Thurman), Johnny struggles to decide what's best for him. Why It Sucks: Above all else, Johnny Be Good is a tonally confused movie: Johnny isn't anywhere near as charming or likeable as the movie thinks, and so there's not a lot of viewer incentive to be invested in him making the right choice. Though the idea of Downey playing a wise-cracking sidekick sounds fine in principle, he just doesn't get the pithy one-liners which define his later, better work, and so he's about as irritating here as he is amusing (though probably still the best thing about the film). While Downey put up with a number of flat comedy roles throughout the 80s, none are as wretchedly annoying as Johnny Be Good.
