15 Awful Movies That Could Have Awesome Remakes

12. Hancock

Why It's Awful: Peter Berg took a marvelous premise (of an alcoholic, deadbeat superhero, played by Will Smith) and filed away its teeth, resulting in a surprisingly tame effort which suffered from horrible execution. Much of the criticism is directed towards the various plot twists doled out in the film's second half, which don't seem to make much sense and needlessly complicate what could have been a hilariously dark take on the typical superhero flick. The Remake: The movie's original script (back when it was still called Tonight, He Comes) is much darker, painting Hancock as a far more unsavoury individual with even less redeeming features, with scenes that involve attempted rape and police officers being gorily torn to pieces. It's easy to see why Columbia didn't want to sink $150 million on something so edgy, especially when there's not much of a way to cut the high concept's budget down, but by all accounts the original script is exactly what the story needs to be. Bring in a young upstart of an actor to play Hancock, and while it still probably wouldn't be anything beyond a cult hit, it'd certainly be a great movie.
