4. Haywire
Critical Consensus: "MMA star and first-time actress Gina Carano displays ample action-movie chops in Haywire, a fast-paced thriller with a top-notch cast and outstanding direction from Steven Soderbergh." Why It's Wrong: It's difficult to figure out what benefit Soderbergh saw in making a movie like this. It's thoroughly generic from start to finish, and though Gina Carano is a pleasingly unconventional action star, the movie is incredibly dull and forgettable during the massive amounts of down-time between action sequences. Unsurprisingly, it was a box office bomb, and the audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes sits at just 40%, while the IMDB score isn't much better at 5.8/10. Why The Critics Liked It: Soderbergh is by and large a critical darling, and critics always love to champion new talent, so they were just happy to see an action film headlined by someone new, and the fact that she happened to be a woman certainly didn't hurt. Even so, really, critics?
