It is only thanks to Jack €“ a homeless young man who had luckily been nearby €“ that she was able to get back on the gigantic ship's deck. Knowing that Rose was actually only a few feet above the ground undoes all the tension of the moment. This sequences is pivotal in the film's narrative as it is this moment which sows the seeds which blossom into the affair the two star-crossed lovers begin on the ship.
