15 Best Action Movies Of The Last 10 Years
2. Snowpiercer
South Korean director Bong Joon-ho is now best known for his Oscar scooping dark comedy Parasite, but perhaps his biggest hit prior to that was the primarily-English language Snowpiercer. While a far larger scale film than Parasite, it has its similarities to the Best Picture winner, most notably in its examination of class struggles and the tension stemming from such situations.
Snowpiercer, however, sets its action on an enormous train carrying the last remnants of humankind. The film takes place on a decimated Earth, after an attempt to abate the effects of climate change has had quite the opposite result. The last surviving humans are divided by class on a train hurtling around the globe.
Visually striking and endlessly inventive, the less you know about the plot going in the better, but simply put, it’s a story of revolution. The have-nots at the back of the train have been pushed into a corner, and can only take so much.
The originality of Snowpiercer makes it a welcome and refreshing piece of work, and the uniformly great performances – from Tilda Swinton and John Hurt, to name two – and plethora of intense setpieces make it a hit for all audiences.
