15 Best Alien Movie Deaths

12. Bishop (Alien 3)

Alien 3 Ripley
20th Century Fox

While it certainly won’t earn any storytelling points for the decision to lazily and abruptly brush off Newt and Hicks early in the film, Bishop gets a poignant send off that nicely contrasts his character with that of the original android, the rather less heroic Ash.

After the grim remains of his severed and mashed mechanical shell are recovered from the crash site of the Sulaco, Ripley manages to reactive him in time to receive confirmation of the face hugger that had infiltrated their ship at the end of Aliens, presumably just before Bishop was sliced in half by the monstrous Alien Queen.

But where Ash was brought back online simply to be interrogated and destroyed, there’s a profound sense of sorrow as Ripley reactivates the ruins of her last remaining friend. While restoration is possible, he’ll never again be a superior specimen, and he’d rather “be nothing.” Ripley sadly obliges, deactivating her loyal ally.

It’s a clever spin on a common trope in the Alien movies, in that characters eventually beg for death as a way out, the only respite from their agony. In the end, the Xenomorphs destroy everything they come into contact with.
