15 Best Alien Movie Deaths
9. Ledward/Karine (Alien: Covenant)
The first onscreen deaths in Covenant work to return the series to the gruesome and shocking style of body horror that was missing from Prometheus.
Scott very much plays on the expectations we have as Alien fans, as Ledward begins to violently convulse in an all too familiar way, and we think we know what’s coming. Lo and behold, a nightmarish creature rips not from his chest, but from the regions of his arched spine, his body as pale and ghostly as the monster that emerges.
It’s not a Xenomorph as we’d expected, but something new entirely; a ghoulish, white entity that grows so rapidly we can see it enlarging and grotesquely spouting limbs before our very eyes.
It’s among the most memorable scenes of Covenant, earning bonus points for its macabre visual splendour: Ledward’s lifeless body slumps backward unnaturally as though in a futuristic slaughterhouse.
When the newly born Neomorph proceeds to viciously maul the screaming Karine, it coats the pristine room in blood, like an artist starting work on fresh white canvas. Quite an introduction. At this moment, we truly know that Alien is back.
